sedak isopure® – Insulating glass with a transparent glass spacer for a nearly seamless appearance

sedak isopure®is an insulating glass unit with a transparent glass spacer that appears almost joint-free compared to conventional insulating glass. Architects specify it for all-glass facades, glass roofs, and frameless glazing — in sizes up to 3.6 x 20 meters.

key benefits
  • transparency for all-glass facades
  • maximizing view
  • bespoke thermal performance
  • customized coating configuration

sedak isopure® revolutionizes transparency in insulating glass units (IGUs). Unlike conventional IGUs with bulky black or grey joints, sedak isopure® utilizes transparent glass spacers on visible sides, effectively minimizing the appearance of joints. In areas where the glass spacer isn't needed, traditional sealing ensures the cavity remains dry. The result? Nearly seamless transparency and unchanged technical properties. Available in sizes up to 3.6m x 20m.

The glass spacer, crafted from low iron glass, offers versatility and can be employed in one, two, or even three edges (for an all-glass design) of the IGU. Typically, it is utilized in the two vertical edges to reduce the visual impact of standard opaque spacers. For the edges of the IGU with conventional edge compound, Edgetech spacer is utilized.

In addition to meeting high standards of quality in processing and aesthetics, the glass spacer also meets contemporary Ug values. sedak isopure® is filled with argon gas and can be combined with various coatings to enhance performance further.

sedak isopure® for all-glass façades & glass roofs

façades

sedak isopure® is the ideal solution for all-glass facades where maximum transparency and a uniform appearance are essential. Unlike conventional insulating glass with visible edge seal lines, sedak isopure® creates an almost uninterrupted glass surface. The transparent glass spacer reduces visible lines within the facade, resulting in a particularly sleek, calm, and refined appearance. This makes sedak isopure® the perfect choice for sophisticated glass facades where design, transparency, and architectural clarity take center stage

roofs & skylights

For large-scale glass roofs and skylights, sedak isopure®offers an unobstructed view from the interior. The transparent edge bond is virtually invisible against the sky, significantly increasing natural daylighting. This enhances energy efficiency and creates bright, inviting spaces that embody lightweight, modern architecture.

FAQ: IGU with glass spacer

What distinguishes sedak isopure® from conventional insulating glass?

Conventional insulating glass units with warm-edge spacers feature visible black or gray lines at the edge seal. At exposed edges, sedak isopure® replaces these with a transparent glass spacer made of low-iron glass. The result is the appearance of nearly seamless glazing while maintaining comparable thermal performance.

What sizes are possible with sedak isopure®?

sedak isopure® can be produced in sizes up to 3.6 x 20 meters. This makes the system particularly suitable for large-format façade elements and expansive glass roofs.

What thermal insulation values can sedak isopure® achieve?

As a double-glazed insulating glass unit with argon fill, sedak isopure® achieves Ug-values of 1.0 to 1.4 W/m²K. In triple glazing, values of up to 0.6 W/m²K are possible.

Can sedak isopure® be combined with solar control or low-E coatings?

Yes. sedak isopure® can be combined with a range of coatings, including solar control and thermal insulation glass. This allows design intent and building-performance requirements to be aligned with precision.

Are there reference projects featuring sedak isopure®?

Yes. sedak isopure®has already been used in numerous architectural projects. Examples from the sedak architecture portfolio include The Story of Emily Museum and the Roman Villa Museum. Project-specific reference materials are available for design offices upon request.

Is sedak isopure® also suitable for glass roofs?

Yes. In overhead glazing applications, the transparent spacer offers particular design advantages, as it is barely perceptible from the interior against the sky. Combined with formats up to 3.6 x 20 meters, this enables expansive glass surfaces with very few joints.

Why is the black spacer a design challenge in all-glass façades?

In large-format all-glass façades, visible black spacer lines often create a pronounced visual grid. This disrupts the intended effect of a homogeneous, nearly invisible glass surface. For architectural concepts that seek a calm and seamless façade appearance, conventional insulating glass therefore reaches clear design limits. sedak isopure® opens up new design possibilities without compromising thermal insulation or structural performance.
